Anyway, the club creator posted this:
"The bike is a bit dated...but it's basically UNCHANGED since it's birthyear of 1986 ! They went to a 5 speed gearbox when they brought the bike Back in the late '90s.
The head- it a single port single overhead cam with 4 valves ! BUT the good NEWs is that for speed parts -it's basically the same engine as the offroad DR600-650 -etc. which there are Tons of Parts for and whose heads were better flowed for MORE top end revs from stock ! It also had Dual ex. ports. & the parts do swap from motor to motor- but I'm not sure how the exhaust ports would fit the savage frame ??! Cams are available as are bigger pistons and well.... you can build the motor Very hot -which i'm going to do to mine when it eventually needs a rebuild !!!"
The cams part interested me as that's usually the next step to increased performance after carb and exhaust mods. There are high performance cams for the DR650 so he's right about that. What do you guys think?
